Programme 9(b)
Indigenous and Ethnic Minority Culture and Arts Programme
Programme aim:
The programme aims to promote sharing, expression and experiencing of different cultures, including those of the indigenous and ethnic minority communities by exploring the culture and arts activities associated with those communities including music, heritage, language, drama or other cultural medium through a developmental programme engaging at least 100 people across the NE region. This would include awareness raising, taster sessions, introduction to learning about the cultural activity and then engaging in the cultural activity through learning and development.
Target beneficiaries
Local groups, groups from disadvantaged areas, marginalized groups and ethnic minority groups from the NE and the border counties are all target beneficiaries of the programme.
Outcomes
By experiencing at first hand the cultural traditions of other communities which may be opposing to their own, participants will gain a better understanding of how those cultures have emerged, their historical context and their importance to the host community. Through better understanding, the programme will improve respect and awareness of differences between communities.
Resource allocation:
This programme contains a resource allocation which participating groups can use to implement practical projects which bring into practice the learning developed through the programme.
