Youth and Schools Programme

Programme aim:

To increase the confidence, knowledge, capacity and skills of young people to explore their own identity and that of others, to build trust and tolerance of  others and to engage in cross group work on diversity, sectarianism, racism and mediation.

Target beneficiaries:
The programme is targeted at young people aged 11-25 from throughout the NE area and border counties.  The programme will be delivered at local school, community and individual locality settings.  At least 24 youth based organisations and or schools will be recruited to the programme.

Outcomes:
Participants will engage in up to 10 themed development modules (sports, history, music and drama) aimed at developing leadership skills in the key areas of sectarianism, diversity, racism, mediation and project delivery.  Participation in the programme will create the opportunity to gain appropriate units of accreditation leading to a full award in leadership at level 1.

Resource Allocation:
This programme contains a resource allocation which participating groups can use to implement practical projects in their school or community setting which bring into practice the leadership skills developed through the programme.

June 2009 – December 2010
