Developing young peer leaders

Programme aim
To develop young people as peer leaders to encourage others to become involved in leading their communities in peace building activity targeting issues of reconciling communities and contributing to a shared society by providing young people with the opportunity, space and support to explore their own identity and that of others, in order to build trust and tolerance of others and contribute to peace building in their communities, participating across the six areas coupled with practical projects/initiatives which they would have to deliver as part of the process.

Target beneficiaries
The focus will be on engaging with young people aged 16 – 25 who are not currently involved in community activity – 60 young people.

The programme will lead to OCN Level 1 in Youth Leadership.

Outcomes
Establishment of 36 Peer Leaders (6 per local authority area) and engagement of 60 young people in the project

Resource Allocation
This programme contains a resource allocation which participating groups can use to implement practical projects in their school or community setting which bring into practice the leadership skills developed through the programme.

Timescales
April 2010 – March 2011
