Schools Based Youth Programme
Programme aim
To encourage leadership and peace building amongst children through school based interventions targeting issues of reconciling communities and contributing to a shared society by providing young people with the opportunity, space and support to explore their own identity and that of others, in order to build trust and tolerance of others and contribute to peace building in their communities, participating across the six areas. This programme will work to embed peace building and reconciliation skills within the school environment through teaching staff, thus ensuring a legacy over the longer term.
Target beneficiaries
The programme will be delivered to four post primary schools per local authority area with participation by 24 teaching staff (1 teacher per school). A series of short term programmes will be delivered in schools with 480 pupils engaged (20 per programme)
Outcomes
It will provide teachers with access to specific reconciliation and peace building skills, including communication and mediation techniques which can be shared with young people
Resource Allocation
This programme contains a resource allocation which participating groups can use to implement practical projects in their school or community setting which bring into practice the leadership skills developed through the programme.
