Indigenous and Ethnic Minority Sport and Leisure Sharing for Peace Building Programme

Programme aim:
The programme will aim to promote the sharing, expression and experiencing of different cultures, including the indigenous and ethnic minority communities, across the NE area by participating in different types of sports and leisure activities. An initial research phase will be conducted to identify the detail of the programme content.

Target beneficiaries
Local groups, groups from disadvantaged areas, marginalized groups and ethnic minority groups from the NE and the border counties are all target beneficiaries of the programme.

Outcomes
Participants on the programme will gain an appreciation of the different cultures which exist across the NE area. They will have the opportunity to participate in sports and leisure activities not normally associated with their community background and engage in activities which raise awareness and respect of other cultures.

Resource allocation:
This programme contains a resource allocation which participating groups can use to implement practical projects which bring into practice the learning developed through the programme.

Timescales
Expected commencement date is October 2009. Programme will be completed by December 2010.
